EatWithoutMe

Hell hath frozen over. Phil sent his first text message ever today. This is a momentous occasion because, like owning a cell phone in the first place, it is something that he said he would never do. But, he was sitting in a city council meeting that was running late, there was no way to politely leave, and I was waiting on him for dinner. So desperate times called for desperate measures. I celebrated this technology advancement by taking Luke to Wendy's for burgers. After all, I wasn't going to cook dinner for just the two of us!

Luke gets his freak on

If you turn up the volume and listen reallllllly carefully, you can tell he's dancing to Pink's "U+UR Hand." I'm not sure where he gets his vanity from (surely not Phil or I), but I think its pretty obvious he gets his dancing skills from his daddy...

Shelby's 1st Birthday!

This weekend, Phil, Luke, and I traveled up to Phoenix to attend Shelby's first birthday party. Angie and Shawn, being the extra extroverts that they are- can throw QUITE the soiree. It was Luau pool party, complete with leis, pulled pork, tiki torches, you name it! They worked hard, and it was so much fun! The food was amazing and everyone was having a great time! Shelby's Aunt Jenna made a very professional looking DVD of video clips and pictures of her first year which was set to the most sentimental country music. I think she was trying to make us all cry! ;) It was a huge hit! Shelby's Memere Patty and Aunt Heather made a delicious and beautiful cake, complete with different flavors, candy hula dancers and hibiscus flowers, and beach scene. Phil and I brought the sparkly homemade pinata-fish, filled with Starburst and Skittles (the non-meltiest candy I could find.) Angie made fun goody buckets for all the kids, and Luke spent all day Sunday carrying around the frog that was in it. And I ate the candy. Yum. When we left at 10, the party was still going strong. I have to imagine that all their friends and family came, because there were seriously like 100 people there- and all had smiles on their faces and were excited to celebrate Shelby's milestone day. Here is the video of Shelby eating her cake, some of the best pics, followed by a slideshow of ALL the pics I took...

Why I Love Coldplay

I love Coldplay because their lyrics make no sense. Tonight at Chili's, Phil was talking about how he liked their new song "Viva La Vida." We were talking about the lyrics, and what we thought they meant, when we got to the line "I hear Jerusalem Bells a ringing, Roman Calvary choirs are singing..." Phil insisted it was "Roman Catholic choirs are singing" and I thought it was... well what it really was. Although Phil's interpretation seems to make more sense, I was positive that I was right. Never one to pass up an opportunity, we bet on it. The wager: the name "Duke." Phil really really really wanted to name our baby, if it is a boy, "Duke." Yes, I know. Luke and Duke. Ridiculous. I haven't really reacted much to his silly name because, like the "Rocky" that never was, I figured it would just pass with time. But, if I could win this bet, then I would never have to endure another Phil dissertation on why rhyming names are the way to go!!! And I DID win!!! Woo hoo!!!! Yeah for Coldplay!!!!

Eewwwwww

I have a great husband. He gets up with Luke on the weekends and lets me sleep in. This morning he accidentally left the bedroom door open, and around 7am, Luke wandered in. He put a diaper on my bed, pointed to it, and said "ewwwww." He's been doing that ever since Nana taught him the word last weekend. What I didn't expect, however, was that the diaper was actually HIS diaper. Off his bottom. And it was full of poop. He had taken his poopy diaper off, walked into my room, and put it on the bed to show it to me. Should I be impressed or disgusted? I'm going with disgusted. Amazingly, though, NO POOP got on anything. And Phil came, took him and his diaper away, and let me go back to sleep.

Yeah for Meatballs!

Luke hasn't eaten what anyone could call a "full" dinner in months. I don't know if it is the heat, or the fact he's a full blown toddler now (they aren't exactly known for their consistent eating habits), or what. But today, I pulled a strogonoff recipe out of my butt (egg noodles, can of cream of mushroom soup, frozen meatballs) and Luke practically ate himself sick! FOUR meatballs! He actually shoved one whole meatball in his mouth at once. He had to spit it back out, of course, when he realized he couldn't actually move his jaw to chew, but still-- he ate with enthusiasm today. Yeah!!!

4th of July Fun!

We're back from our weekend in Phoenix! Luke had a great time hanging out with Nana and Papa Snider, swimming, and playing with Auntie Angie, Uncle Shawn, and cousin Shelby! We also celebrated Nana's birthday with a yummy cake and bbq. Luke is getting more comfortable around family, and Phil and I even snuck off to Pei Wei for dinner on Saturday and Luke stayed to play with my parents. I don't think he even noticed we were gone. We're still trying to get the perfect pic of Luke and Shelby together, but as anyone with toddlers knows, that is darned near impossible. Oh well!
